Our Story

Team Puyal was established 5 years ago in 2005. It was founded by a group of five young, vibrant and energetic members. They all share the common ideology, desire and passion in volunteering their time and energy helping people who are in need of financial aid to meet the basic needs in life. They had the fire in them, they were vibrant, strong and fast at what they do just like a STORM. A storm has 5 elements in it too. Wind, Air, Rain (water), Strength and Lightning. So looking at all this, the 5 of us had it all. That is when, we decided to call ourselves Team Puyal !

In the beginning, Team Puyal has funded the charity programs by soliciting various organizations for assistance in terms of finance and food supply. They are also involved in rendering assistance for the halfway house. However, the funds securing from these activities are inadequate to meet the substantial increase in the number of calls for financial aid from the public.

Team Puyal embarked on a recruitment campaign, which has seen the expansion of the head count from the initial 5 to the present 26. The increase in members has enabled Team Puyal to set up its own dance troupe, soccer team, social service club etc which has resulted an increase in funds by winning tournament, competitions and by charging a fee for the performance. Gradually, we wrote to many community clubs if they would need show coordinators so that we could present a show case for CC events. Eventually CC called us for help and we only charged a minimal sum of $ 200 to run a stage show. Additionally Team Puyal raised funds by offering variety of services including:

  • Organizing variety shows and road shows and charge an entrance fee for the shows.
  • Getting sponsors for the shows through the network of friends.
  • Coordinating and organizing shows for community clubs and charge a fee for the service.
  • Offering services like decoration works, table setting etc and charge a fee for the work.

Team Puyal was particularly well received by the senior citizens because of its deep involvement with this sector of the society. This aspect of charity was spearheaded and guided by Mr. Karim, Mr. Steven and Mr. Thirunagarasu from Narpani Pearavai. They have, untiringly and unselfishly, provided their coaching, encouragement and guidance to Team Puyal in ensuring the success of this senior citizen program.

Team Puyal is highly honored by having Mdm Jayamani, well- known for her involvement in volunteering and charity works for the past 20 years, to join the team. We believe that experienced people with their insights and valuable suggestions coupled with young people’s dynamism and enthusiasm form a perfect combination for our organization. That is the reason we always had good age diversity within our team. The youngest team member is just 13 years old and the oldest is 58 years old. Team Puyal also has a young celebrity, Reuben, aged 13 to join as a member.  Reubern was awarded the Pradana Vizha’s Best Child Artist in 2009.

Premeela V Cleetus is a registered nurse who has been with Team Puyal for the last 3 years. She is a qualified registered nurse in Singapore and trained a selected number of Team Puyal members for first aid programs. Preemela has been involved with many of the events Team Puyal has coordinated. Premeela sets a first aid team whenever the team has events.

There are some Puyal members who are as young as 16 to 18 years old. Some are expert in designing logos, company slogans etc. They do this service for a minimal amount so as to contribute for Team Puyal fund. These youngsters are energetic and are always willing to help.

All members in Team Puyal work well together as one big happy family. We hope to see more members joining Team Puyal in the volunteering and charity works, enabling Team Puyal to achieve the goal of rendering help to all people in the society who seek its assistance.
